Vancouver's the Harpoonist & the Axe Murderer are set to release their new record, Apocalipstick, on March 24, the duo's fifth album, and first new one since 2014's A Real Fine Mess.

Bandmates Shawn Hall and Matthew Rogers first met at a recording session by chance, nearly seven years ago. Bonding over a mutual love of folk and blues, their sound has since evolved to include anything from rock 'n' roll to R&B. The pair received a Sirius XM Indie Award in 2013 for blues artist of the year, and was nominated for a Juno for A Real Fine Mess.

The B.C. singers told Exclaim! that Apocalipstick came together from “the desire for companionship, the endless pursuit of tone, the strength and glue of family, and admiration for each other’s skills.”

On it, you'll find 13 tracks for any mood. Whether it’s an upbeat track like “Get Ready,” or a slowed-down, heartfelt jam like “Treat Me Kind,” Rogers and Hall's blues-rock grooves are filled with soul. Thier songs use various instruments ranging from the harmonica to the guitar, fostering feel-good music with a unique sound.

Their first single released off the record, “Forever Fool,” has a funkadelic, retro vibe to it. According to the duo, the song talks about “revenge, transition and thrills … it exemplifies the power of the get back, take back, want back and demand for equalization.” Watch their video, below.

Apocalipstick features a range of great musicians including Dawn Pemberton, Andrina Turenne, Alexa Dirks, Ben Rogers, Khari Wendell, Erik Nielsen and Ricardo Khayatte. The duo is currently touring across Canada with Monkey Junk, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Ryan McNally, and Leeroy Stagger. Check here for dates.

Apocalipstick will be released on March 24. You can pre-order the album here.
