Emm Gryner's voice has been described as a "distilled original" (by the Irish Times), capable of singing soft and low or hard and edgy, but always sounding uniquely Emm Gryner. Her fans include U2's Bono, Nelly Furtado and Chris Hadfield.

20 years ago, Gryner won a song contest. She recorded an album and was signed to a record deal. Unfortunately for Gryner, the label was absorbed by a larger one and she was dropped. No problem. Gryner went back to her own label, Dead Daisy Records and kept making albums. She toured the world with David Bowie, was nominated for 3 Junos and became one of the hardest workers in the business. She also gained a reputation for her strong songwriting skills.

Gryner splits her time between her solo projects and a folky, rootsy trio called Trent Severn. She has just released a new solo project called 21st Century Ballads. On this edition of "My Playlist," Gryner shares her favourite music and the stories behind the songs.

Emm Gryner is a singer-songwriter and member of the band Trent Severn.
