Bruce Cockburn knows something about what makes a great song. He's written some pretty powerful ones himself: "Pacing the Cage," "Lovers in a Dangerous Time," and "If I Had a Rocket Launcher," are just a few. His songs have been covered by a wide range of artists -- Jerry Garcia, Chet Atkins, Judy Collins, Barenaked Ladies, Jimmy Buffett and k.d. Lang.

Cockburn is a 13-time Juno winner and a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. He's considered to be a virtuoso guitarist and a musician's musician. However commercial success, while nice, has never been the motivation behind Cockburn and his music. Instead, music has been a way to explore and critique culture, politics and the nature of the spirit.

On this edition of My Playlist, Cockburn takes us through a list of some of his favourite tracks and talks about why he chose them.
