DFA 1979's Sebastien Grainger announces new band, record label

DFA 1979 drummer Sebastien Grainger has announced a new musical project and record label via the release of a catchy new song.  

"Heat Wave" is the first song from American Lips, a band he has formed with former Tricky Woo member Adrian Popovich. The band's EP, Kiss the Void, will be the first release from a new record label the duo has also founded together called Ancient Fashion. 

American Lips features Grainger on drums, Popovich on guitar, and Jessica Bruzzese on bass. Kiss the Void was recorded in Montreal by Popovich and mixed by Grainger in Los Angeles. It is expected be released this fall. Grainger confirmed in an interview with Exclaim! that they primarily started the label to release their own work, but are also interested in expanding that vision.

The music video for "Heat Wave" is a collage of animated Tumblr GIFs created by Grainger over the course of three nights in the wee hours of the morning, according to the band's Vimeo page. Watch it below.
