Sondra Radvanovsky is THE Verdi soprano of her generation. Her voice has a seamless range, extreme legato and the power to ride up and over the orchestra in the big scenes. Radvanovsky also has the fine dramatic sense needed to perform such roles as Leonora in Il Trovatore and Elizabeth in Don Carlo. Both the London and the New York Times have praised Radvanovsky for her "juicy vibrato-rich sound and its affecting intensity."
Radvanovsky was born just outside of Chicago but has lived in Toronto for most of the past two decades. Today, Radvanovsky is firmly established as one of the leading stars on the international stage. Her home theatre is the Metropolitan Opera, where she trained in the late 1990s but Radvanovsky has sung in every major opera house in the world. When she's not performing, Radvanovsky enjoys her time at her rural home on the shores of Lake Ontario.
On this edition of This Is My Music, Radvanovsky shares her favourite music and the stories behind her selections.
This Is My Music is heard Saturdays on Radio 2 at 10:00 am ET.
