It's almost Valentine's Day and love is in the air. For performers, there's a special intensity as a result of their unique understanding and experience of their art. Love and music intertwine at the heart of major events in the lives of musicians and vocalists. Love can fuel their greatest creativity. In fact, some are the people who inspired the love songs that we can't live without. For others, music led them (literally) to their most significant other.
Musicians will tell you that they can find love in music that might surprise you. Of course, singers spend their careers acting out famous operatic love stories; there's nothing quite like actually performing and bringing to life the great romantic music.
On today's edition of This Is My Music, you'll hear stories of love and music from artists like soprano Mary Lou Fallis, Joanne Kolomyjec, Isabel Bayrakdarian, composer Serouj Kradjian, mezzo-soprano Allyson McHardy, tenor Benjamin Butterfield, baritone Jason Howard, violistist and conductor Ivars Taurins, clarinetist James Campbell, oboe player Sarah Jeffrey, trumpeter Stuart Laughton, tuba player Scott Irvine and percussionist Beverley Johnston.
This Is My Music is heard Saturdays on Radio 2 at 10:00 am.
Various performers share stories of love and music.
