We asked George Stroumboulopoulos, Searchlight industry panelist, host of The Strombo Show on CBC Radio 2 and anchor on Hockey Night in Canada, for five of his favourite Searchlight entries.
In the video above, Strombo lets his love for rock 'n' roll show, highlighting the electro pop/rock sound of Quebec's Rebelle, the menacing prog rock from Kelowna, B.C.'s Andrew Judah, and the hard-hitting sister trio Stegall out of Windsor, Ont. He also had no reservations about the Prince-like soul of Halifax's Loveland, or the tight rhymes from Toronto's Los Poetas.
With more than 2,000 artists applying for the $50,000 in grand prizing this year, there's a lot of amazing new music to discover. You can watch and vote for your favourites at CBCMusicSearchlight.ca, and for your efforts, you will be entered into a draw to win a guitar and amp prize pack from Yamaha Music Canada, valued at approximately $1,300. We're giving out one per round for the first three rounds.
