Listen to the July 12, 2015, episode of the Strombo Show.
"De La Soul posse consists of three. And that's the magic number."
The Strombo Show ran the gamut this Sunday night, keeping the spirit of radio alive by delivering the best records in the best order. It's a show for music lovers by music lovers, ranging over three hours of commercial-free music to honour both old and new.
George Stroumboulopoulos is joined by De La Soul's Plug Three himself (Maseo) for an intimate conversation. Maseo is one-third of the influential trifecta, and his turntablist tendencies changed the game, alongside De La Soul's contemporaries such as LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane and Public Enemy. Earlier this year, the group launched a Kickstarter campaign to support its eighth studio album, and it resulted in an overwhelmingly positive response.
In conversation with George, Maseo revisits his origins, opens up about the social struggles in Long Island, reveals details of the upcoming album and discusses the role of women MCs in modern hip-hop.
Also, our good friend Lana Gay of CBC Radio returns to the program, and Pan Am chef de mission Curt Harnett drops by the House of Strombo.
