Love & marriage: the 30 best songs for an indie wedding playlist

Andrea Warner

Weddings are amazing opportunities for couples to highlight what makes their love special, but there are a ton of details that go into a day-long celebration and music isn't usually a top-tier priority.

Maybe that's why so many weddings are ruled by Top 40 banality. Or why even decent pop songs (hi Adele, Bruno Mars) start to grate on the nerves because of their first-dance ubiquity.

But there are some amazing non-mainstream love songs floating just under the radar, everything from gorgeous R&B and pop ballads to heartfelt folk declarations and punk confessionals.

So let CBC Music help you make your marriage/civil union/commitment ceremony as unique as the love you're celebrating. Below, you'll find 30 songs from a range of artists and bands, including Bahamas, Whitehorse, Laura Mvula, the Februarys, Two Hours Traffic, Birdy, Jill Barber, the Blow and more.
