MSTRKRFT is back. The electronic duo from Toronto has released its first album since 2009, titled Operator. Jesse F. Keeler and Al-P (aka Alex Puodziukas) wanted to make some more music together, figuring they would just release new songs online to their fans. But before they realized it, they had recorded a slew of great tunes — and Operator was born.
CBC Music invited the band up to the roof of the CBC, high above the streets of Toronto, and directly beneath the CN Tower. The band played six songs from the new album and a great version of "Fist of God," to round out a seven-song set. MSTRKRFT played as the sun set, the lake shimmered and the skyline lit up behind them. The videos of Keeler and Puodziukas manipulating suitcases full of analog processors, creating propulsive beats while the city lights dance behind them, are pretty impressive.
