Carly Rae Jepsen releases Emotion B-sides

Melody Lau

One year ago, Carly Rae Jepsen released her now-Polaris Music Prize shortlisted album, Emotion. The album, which made it onto many best-of year-end lists (including CBC Music’s best albums of 2015), solidified Jepsen as a pop force beyond her breakout hit “Call Me Maybe,” and in the year since the album’s release, the Canadian artist has toured all over the world, collaborated with Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes once again on his album Freetown Sound and most recently put out a new song with PC Music’s Danny L Harle.

Now, to celebrate the anniversary of Emotion, Jepsen has released a six-song collection of B-sides from that album simply titled Emotion Side B. In an online note written by Jepsen, she described the songs as, “extra tunes we made on the journey to Emotion.” She also thanked fans for all the “memes, the covers, the parties, and the shows.”

Jepsen capped her note off by telling fans she is currently working on a new album but that the B-sides will “hold yah over till then.” Listen to Emotion Side B here.

Catch Carly Rae Jepsen perform live at this year’s Polaris Music Prize gala on Monday, Sept. 19.
