Wham!'s 1984 hit "Last Christmas" is an established song that you hear in the holiday season. But Polish engineer Pawel Zadrozniak has found a way to put on a twist on how you hear this perennial George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley seasonal song.
The Floppotron is an invention that boasts 64 floppy drives, 8 hard disks and 2 scanners. In the past, Zadrozniak has found ways to recreate the themes from Star Wars and Game of Thrones as well as The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" with his Floppotron invention which he calls a "computer hardware orchestra."
"Every device with an electric motor is able to generate a sound," Zadrozniak writes on his blog. "Scanners and floppy drives use stepper motors to move the head with sensors which scans the image or performs read/write operations on a magnetic disk. The sound generated by a motor depends on driving speed. The higher the frequency, the greater the pitch."
