James Anagnoson is perhaps best known as one half of the acclaimed piano duo, Anagnoson and Kinton. Along with Leslie Kinton, Anagnoson has appeared at the keyboard on concert stages all over the world since 1976, performing the repertoire for two pianos and piano-four-hands. They have also commissioned many new works, adding to the repertoire.
Anagnoson has a separate life as well with an important day job. Since 2007, he has been Dean of The Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School in Toronto. He joined the school’s piano faculty when it was founded in 1987. He is one of Canada’s best-known piano pedagogues, having taught also at the Universities of Toronto and Western Ontario. His students have won prizes at many international piano competitions and he has served on the juries of many more.
Anagnoson grew up in Boston and earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. He later earned a Master's degree from Juilliard. Anagnoson was influenced by such performers as Eugene List, Leon Fleisher, Claude Frank and Karl Ulrich Schnabel.
