The luxury of feeling good and burning bright is, for most people, a lot easier to do as of June 21. The first day of summer is a promise, all warm glows and short nights and plenty of SPF to counter the sun’s blinding light.
But it’s also a lot of pressure to celebrate the skin we’re in, like a magic that one’s meant to contain inside themselves rather than a constant negotiation with the tides of our self-worth and the Venn diagram of our wants and needs.
Thankfully there’s a lot of music right now that is full of sparks and heart, and this 10-song playlist of 2017’s best summer anthems of self-esteem and self-love is full of danceable delights, slicked-up, sweaty beats and runs the gamut from frivolous fun to empowerment earworks.
