You'll enjoy this clever 'Clair de lune'/'Happy Birthday' mashup

Robert Rowat

Everyone needs a hobby, right?

When he's not busy performing his duties as Kapellmeister at Komische Oper Berlin, or conducting opera and symphony performances at Austria's Bregenz Festival, Jordan de Souza's pastime is playing classical "Happy Birthday" mashups on piano.

He's done them in the style of Brahms, Mozart and Verdi, and now — to mark the 155th anniversy of Claude Debussy's birth — he has melded "Happy Birthday" and "Clair de lune." (The result is more wistful than celebratory, so use caution when sharing it with anybody marking a milestone.)
