Watch Deen Squad perform a 'halal rap' and new songs live

Editorial Staff

Deen Squad has been bringing its message of love and positivity to stages all around the world, even opening for Justin Bieber in Dubai recently.

The Ottawa-based band, made up of Jae Deen and Karter Zaher, came to CBC Music for a four-song session several weeks ago. The Muslim rappers are known for their "halal remixes" of Top 40 songs — one of their most popular, "Believer," is a rewrite of OMI's "Cheerleader," with Deen Squad singing about their ideal woman, a believer (and which has more than 2.5 million YouTube views). Deen Squad also has a big hit with "Cover Girl (Rockin' that Hijab)," about Muslim women looking righteous in their hijabs.

In their CBC Music session, Deen and Zaher perform two acoustic songs with Andrew Waines on guitar, as well as two songs with backing tracks. Check out the session below.
