You'll enjoy conductor Christian Kluxen's holiday message

Robert Rowat

For his first Christmas as music director of the Victoria Symphony, conductor Christian Kluxen posted a hilarious holiday greeting to his Facebook followers.

On one side of the split-screen video, Kluxen struggles to play Christmas music on a melodica — easily distracted by such enticements as cookies, Christmas ornaments and brandy.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the screen, he delivers a tongue-in-cheek holiday greeting while seated on a comfy armchair and holding a Frosty-the-Snowman mug. (More brandy?)

"Personally, I can say it's been a great year for me on Facebook," says Kluxen, adding, "I'm only 78,639,000 followers away from having as many followers as my esteemed musician colleague Justin Bieber."

Kluxen's next concerts with the Victoria Symphony will be on Jan. 21 and 22, when he conducts Brahms' Violin Concerto and Holst's The Planets.
