Award-winning sculptor Peter Vogelaar is paying tribute to Gord Downie by creating an ice sculpture of him in downtown Kingston.
Vogelaar sculpted live this week in Springer Market Square, the same place many local fans gathered on Aug. 20, 2016, to watch the Tragically Hip's final concert.
Today, some people expressed concerned that the sculpture had been stolen or destroyed, but, as the City of Kingston Twitter account confirms, it was just temporarily moved into the freezer of a nearby restaurant for safekeeping during warmer weather.
Watch a video of Vogelaar in action below.

The ice sculpture of Gord Downie is safe and sound. It was a different sculpture that was destroyed overnight. Ice Gord was stored safely in the freezer of Morrison’s Restaurant. #ygk pic.twitter.com/1WSrAcYvAb— City of Kingston (@cityofkingston) February 2, 2018
