Violinist Timothy Chooi will take over CBC Music's Instagram on Friday, May 11.
He'll be in Toronto that day (and Saturday, May 12) to play "Spring" and "Summer" from Vivaldi's The Four Seasons with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at Roy Thomson Hall. It's the next concert in their What Makes it Great? series with conductor and host Rob Kapilow. For his Instagram takeover, Chooi will take us behind the scenes and give us a glimpse at a day in the life of a concert violinist. (Rehearsals, warm-ups and probably some silly food photos.)
Chooi, 24, is an alumnus of CBC Music's annual list of 30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30. A native of Victoria, B.C., he's currently enrolled in the master's program at the Juilliard School in New York City. In 2015, he won the bronze medal at the Michael Hill International Violin Competition. Earlier this year, he won first prize at the Schadt String Competition.
He's committed to expanding the classical music audience, especially among today's youth. He has produced some fun performance videos in unexpected locales and maintains an engaging presence on social media, indulging his love of travel and photography.
So, be sure to follow CBC Music on Instagram and watch for Chooi's takeover from the Toronto Symphony Orchestra on May 11.
