Arcade Fire's Richard Reed Parry announces new Japan-inspired solo album

Melody Lau

Arcade Fire is currently on its Everything Now Continued tour, but that isn't stopping member Richard Reed Parry from branching out on his own with a new solo album.

Parry, who last put out a solo record in 2014 with Music for Heart and Breath, announced today that he will release a new album called Quiet River of Dust Vol. 1 on Sept. 21. The first two singles, "Sai No Kawara (River of Death)" and "On the Ground" have been put together into an animated music video that you can watch below. The video was directed by Parry and artist Caleb Wood.

According to a press release, Quiet River of Dust Vol. 1 was inspired by a recent trip Parry took to Japan. The album also draws from Buddhist myths, death poems and British folk songs. A second volume is scheduled to come out in 2019.

Parry isn't the only member of the Montreal rock band to go solo. Multi-instrumentalist Will Butler has released two records, violinist Sarah Neufeld has worked on various other projects including some solo releases, bassist Tim Kingsbury performs on the side as Sam Patch and drummer Jeremy Gara put out a record in 2016.
