First Play Live: Megative

Editorial Staff

Megative is a vibrant eight-piece supergroup heavily influenced by late '70s punk and reggae. Think the Clash, but with more dancehall.

The furious performers are led by producer Gus Van Go, who honed his chops in the Montreal ska band Me Mom & Morgentaler. Tim Fletcher of the Stills and dancehall legend Screechy Dan share lead vocals. Johnny Go Figure adds percussion and vocals and teams with Screechy to do an old-school dancehall interlude. Chris Soper and Jesse Singer are on keys, Alex Barbeau is on guitar and Demetrius Pass pounds the kit.

In this First Play Live session, filmed at Longboat Hall in Toronto, Ammoye jumped up to do vocals on "You Don't Love Me (No, No, No)" and Dennis Passley ripped it on his sax.
