Soprano Ambur Braid will take over CBC Music's Instagram on Thursday, Oct. 11.
She'll be at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto that day for the dress rehearsal of Hadrian, the new opera by Rufus Wainwright. Braid sings the role of Sabina, sharing the stage with soprano Karita Mattila (Plotina), tenor Isaiah Bell (Antinous) and — in the title role — baritone Thomas Hampson. Opening night is Oct. 13. During her Instagram takeover, Braid will take us behind the scenes of the Canadian Opera Company's production, for a look at one day in the life of a professional opera singer.
Braid's last performance at the COC was as the Queen of the Night in its January 2017 production of Mozart's The Magic Flute. She has since sung the title role in Puccini's Tosca at Calgary Opera — "the dominant vocal presence in this production, her singing the most nuanced and, ultimately, the most beautiful," wrote the Calgary Herald reviewer. After the COC's run of Hadrian, Braid goes to Germany to continue her association with Frankfurt Opera, where she's slated to sing in upcoming productions of The Magic Flute, Wagner's Die Walküre and Bruno Madera's Satyricon.
