Joni Mitchell tribute concert will get a theatrical release next month

Melody Lau

Missed out on Joni Mitchell's 75th birthday tribute event in Los Angeles last November? Fear not.

The Music Center Presents Joni 75: A Birthday Celebration, a two-hour film, will be hitting select theatres for a special one-night-only screening in the U.S. and Canada on Feb. 7.

The two-night event, which took place at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on Nov. 6 and 7, featured performances from some of music's biggest names, including James Taylor, Kris Kristofferson, Chaka Khan, Emmylou Harris, Graham Nash, Rufus Wainwright and others. Mitchell, who has mostly stayed out of the spotlight in recent years, made a special appearance on the second evening and even got onstage to blow out birthday candles.

The film will be screened in 22 Canadian theatres, including ones in Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal. (For a full list of theatres, go to Cineplex's website.) Tickets are on sale now, and an accompanying soundtrack is also up for pre-sale. The album will officially be released on March 1.
